“I may be speaking to some who can say, with an emphasis, that they oftentimes find great crops of thistles springing up in their hearts, and they have to keep the sickle of sacred mortification going to cut them down, and they try if possible to dig them up by the roots. But thus it is; you cannot expect a perfect life of happiness in an imperfect world Eke this. No; your Savior carried the cross, and you will have a cross of some kind or other to carry after him. ??Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee.?? Spurgeon, C. H.

Recent took a trip to Japan for some meetings. It was a short trip with little sight seeing. Mainly meetings, eating and sleeping.
Each morning and evening I took the train to and from the Toshiba office. The photo below shows a view of the train from one of many covered walkways. Each station has a dozen or more tracks. These walkways bring commuters between the entrances and tracks. Some walkways are solely for commuters to transfer from one train to another. I accidentally walked down this one thinking I was headed for the exit when it actually brought me to another train.

Here’s Matthew running allong the sidewalk on the way to the park. He’s so fun to watch. I knew he looked silly when he runs, but it’s really something else to freeze the motion and really see the expression on his face and the posture of his body. Click on the photo to see more in the gallery.

One of the nice things about many of the malls are the colorful indoor playgrounds. I’ve always wanted to take my camera and shoot away. Now Matthew’s old enough to really run around, climb and enjoy the playground. Most of the parents just sit and let their kids play. It’s similar to a dog park where the owners just sit on the sidelines and let the dogs do whatever.
Since I brought my camera, I was more motivated to chase Matthew around, and get some good photos. It turned out to be a lot more fun than sitting on the sidelines. I met a few kids in the process and helped teach Matthew a little about playing nice.
I was chasing Matthew back and forth in a play log when this little girl came up. I’m not sure, but I think he was trying to chase her away! Click the photo below to see more.

Matthew almost immediately notices any new and interesting object in his environment. He immediately took to playing with a tire iron and jack.

I’ve been looking at a lot of black and white photography online lately and have been inspired to do some myself. I created a series of black and white photos that are now on my flickr gallery.
